Two suicide bombings have killed at least 16 people at a military base north of the Iraqi capital Baghdad.
The bombings at the base in the town of Tarmiya left 39 more wounded.
One bomber blew up a car laden with explosives at the entrance of the base before the second bomber struck inside the compound itself.
Violence in Iraq is running at its highest level since 2008, with almost 2,000 people killed in the past two months alone, according to the UN.
Among other attacks reported in Iraq on Thursday, three people were killed in a bombing on another army base in the town of Ana, some 250km (160 miles) north-west of Baghdad.
No group has said it carried out the attacks, but suspicion will fall on al-Qaeda linked militants who often target the security services and Shia Muslims.
The latest violence as Shia Muslims prepare to commemorate Ashura, which marks the martyrdom at Karbala of Hussein, a grandson of the Prophet Muhammad.
The Shia-led government has been accused of failing to address grievances among the Sunni Arab minority, including allegations of abuses by security forces.
