Ateneo suspends work, classes after getting bomb threats through texts

Ateneo students at the evacuation area after a bomb threat disrupts classes.
(UPDATE 2—12:58 p.m.) All work and classes in Ateneo de Manila University at its Katipunan campus have been suspended 12 noon onwards due to a bomb threat.

“Three text messages were sent around 9:20 a.m.,” Quezon City Police Department Chief Richard Albano said.

These text messages were sent to several employees and were received at the same time, Sonia Araneta, director of the Ateneo’s public relations office, said in a phone interview in Dateline Philippines.

The Guidon, the official student publication of the Ateneo de Manila University, said all buildings in the campus have been evacuated, it said on its Twitter account.

“So far, the police sweep is negative,” Albano said. “[Police] is still continuing the sweep at this time.”
